19th Century French Spelter Female Statue with Bird Nest “Le Nid by L. Gregoire”

Decorate a lady’s desk or dress a shelf with this elegant antique statue. Crafted in France circa 1870, the spelter composition stands on a circular base and depicts a young female beauty standing and holding in her arms a nest filled with three small birds, with another young bird at her feet. The girl statue bears a plaque on the front which reads “Le Nid par L. Gregoire”. The sweet sculpture is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a rich patinated silver finish. Jean Louis Gregoire (1840-1890) was a French sculptor who was born and died in Paris. Training under Salmson at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, he exhibited at the Salon from 1867 to 1890 and became one of the first Associates of the Artistes Français.
