Make a statement in your home with this long, elegant, antique candelabra. Crafted in Italy circa 1780, the five-arm candelabra features an elaborate design with intricate carvings in a gilded finish, giving it a rich, opulent appearance. The focal point is a large, shield-like crest in the center, adorned with a Fleur-de-Lys, symbol set against a blue painted background. Each candle holder with scalloped edges, creates an additional layer of elegance and utility. The decorative sculpture is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use rich gilt finish. The candelabra would make an excellent addition to a console of mantel. Candles not included. The Fleur-de-Lis has been used in the heraldry of numerous European nations, but is particularly associated with France, notably during its monarchical period. As France is a historically Catholic nation, the Fleur-de-Lis became “at one and the same time, religious, political, dynastic, artistic, emblematic, and symbolic,” especially in French heraldry. The Fleur-de-Lis has been used by French royalty and throughout history to represent Catholic saints of France. In particular, the Virgin Mary and Saint Joseph are often depicted with a lily.
