18th Century French Louis XV Marble Top Carved Elm Two-Door Corner Cabinet
$3,600
About
This traditional, antique “Encoignure,” (French for corner cabinet) was crafted in Provence, France, circa 1760. Built of elm wood, the small buffet stands on small cabriole feet over a scalloped apron decorated with flowers and leaves embellishments. The piece features two serpentine bombe doors with recessed panels, decorated with ornate detailing including a carved floral motif near the top. The surface is dressed with the original white marble top with beveled edge, following the curved shape of the cabinet. When opens, the cabinet has a center shelf for ultimate storage, and the original iron hardware and locking mechanism. The bombe buffet is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a rich walnut patina; this cabinet would make a useful addition to the powder room to store everyday utilities, or in an entry way or den for additional storage. Key and lock included. Like most corner cabinets this piece is front heavy, it is advised that it be secured to the wall to ensure stability. Measures: 27.5″ W x 20″ D x 32″ H.
