About
This antique “Billot de Boucher”, or butcher block was crafted in southwest France, circa 1890. The large piece stands on four spindled-shaped legs ending with bun feet, and decorated with diamond shaped medallions in each corner. The block features a center drawer dressed with the original metal handle, over a carved scalloped apron on all three sides. The long table top made of mixed woods including maple and beech wood, features a carving station surface shaped from generations of use, embellished with decorative metal brackets at each corner, and decorative medallions across the front; the top is further dressed with two knife slot holders and two meat cleavers. The carved back from a later addition is decorated with curved volutes on both sides and embellished with a bronze bull head at the top, and a pair of smaller decorative cow heads on the back board. The butcher table is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a rich light walnut patina. Place this charming work table in your kitchen or breakfast room for the ultimate Country French look, a true one of a kind!
