Mid-Century French Louis XIII Carved “Sheep Bone” Dining Chairs, Set of Six
$2,400
About
Dress a dining or breakfast table with this elegant set of antique chairs. Crafted in France, circa 1950, each chair stands on carved “Os de Mouton” (sheep bone) legs decorated with a serpentine bottom stretcher. Each chair features a tall arched and pitched back and a wide and deep seat. The Classic chairs are upholstered with their original yellow mustard upholstery and dressed with decorative brass nail heads. The comfortable dining chairs are in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorn a rich walnut patina throughout the frame. (Os de mouton is a design term that refers to the classic, sinuous stretchers that are a defining element of Louis XIII furniture. The shape of the chair legs is based on the shape of the legs of a lamb. The term is translated literally as “mutton bone.”) Measures: 18.75″ W x 22″ D x 42″ H.
