About
This beautiful antique fruitwood “Duchesse Brisee” (French for broken duchess), or Chaise Longue, was crafted in Provence, France circa 1890. The set comprises two armchairs (his and hers), and a matching ottoman in between for both to use. Each piece stands on cabriole legs decorated with floral motifs at the shoulder, over a scalloped apron embellished with shell and leaf decor. Both rounded and curved backs are decorated with hand carved floral and foliage motifs, and each comfortable seat are dressed with loose cushion. The multiple sections are upholstered with the original green silk fabric with floral motifs (one moisture spot on tall bergere chair near top). The provincial chaise lounge is in very good condition commensurate with age and use, with wonderful carvings, and adorns a rich walnut patina. Collection of a very prominent Dallasite family. Measures: 68″W x 31″D x 40″H.
