19th Century French Black Forest Carved Bleached Oak Hunt Buffet Desserte
$6,900
About
This heavily carved “Saint Hubert” cabinet server was crafted in France circa 1870. Hand carved of solid oak wood and built in two sections with top crown, the highly detailed antique desserte stands on bun feet over a straight plinth, and features exquisite carvings in high relief throughout. The removable top is dressed with an important foliate crest protruding a hand carved hound dog head motif at the center and flanked with scrolling grape vines on both sides; it is further embellished with side finials. The center part has an adjustable display shelf with carved edges, further embellished with floral and leaf motifs on each back panels. The lower section features vertical side columns including cascading fruits and foliage, creating continuity with the door designs. The buffet has two carved drawers across the front dressed with grape and branch-form handles; it features two doors decorated with carved bird and fish trophy medallions, and embellished with foliage and fruit decor, including bundle of wheat, grape and vine leaves. The inside reveals shelving and plenty of additional storage. The spectacular “Buffet de Chasse” is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a rich bleached patinated finish. Place this Black Forest credenza sideboard in a hunting lodge entry, or a dining room in any ranch style house. A true one of a kind with incredible thick carvings! Key included. Measure: 60.75″ W x 22.5″ D x 84″ H.
