Created in France, circa 1870, the elegant tantalus set features a beautifully crafted wooden box with intricate inlay work, striking inlaid geometric patterns, and a luxurious burled wood finish. Inside, it houses an array of four cut crystal decanters and matching glasses, arranged in a fitted brass holder. The decanters are topped with finely shaped stoppers, and all 16 glasses with gold detailing, exhibit exquisite faceted designs, reflecting the fine craftsmanship typical of 19th-century European tableware. The finely etched patterns and elegant shapes of the glassware and carafes reflect the luxurious nature of the set. Tantalus sets like this were often used to store and display spirits, offering a combination of functionality and opulence. The box’s hinged lid adds to its charm, providing both security and sophistication for its contents.
