About
Keep a view of Paris in your home with this oil on canvas painting by French painter, Lucien Delarue. Set inside a carved gilt frame, this detailed, architectural painting is signed in lower right corner by the artist. The art work depicts a famous part of Paris, “L’Ile Saint-Louis..” The Ile Saint-Louis is one of two natural islands in the Seine river (the other natural island is Ile de la Cité). The island is connected to the rest of Paris by four bridges to both banks of the river and to the Île de la Cité by the Pont Saint-Louis. This island was formerly used for the grazing of market cattle and stocking wood. The painting is in excellent condition, and exhibits an excellent rendering of space and perspective, as well as a well-maintained soft pastel colors palette. This piece is the perfect way to bring a little part of Paris with you to your study or office. Lucien Delarue (1925-2011) was born in Paris. He studied at the studios of Grande Chaumiere, Paris as a pupil of Maitre Yves Brayer and began taking part in exhibitions very early in his career, winning first prize and the Vermeil-Medaille at the Salon Violet. Delarue also received a gold medal at the Salon of Vincennes, a gold medal at the Salon of Clichy in 1973, a silver medal at the Salon des Artistes Francais in 1974 and a bronze medal at the “Arts-Sciences-Lettres” exhibition in Paris. In 1970, Delarue’s works were exhibited at the Museum of Ile de France in the chateau of Sceaux, and had other exhibitions held in New York, Dallas, and San Francisco. He was a member of the Salon des Artistes Francais and of the French Watercolor Society, and his paintings have been purchased by the municipalities of Paris and Clichy. He died in 2011 at the age of 86. Listed in the Benezit. 24″W x 21″H
