Mid-19th Century French Louis Philippe Carved Walnut Secretary Cabinet
$5,900
About
This elegant, antique fruitwood “secretaire a abattant” was crafted in France circa 1840; the tall secretary with classical straight lines features a shaped top over a frieze drawer. The fall front opens and reveals a fully outfitted inside theater decorated with turned columns on the sides, six functioning drawers, and a wide open niche for books and letters. The writing surface is upholstered with a green leather top. The bottom has double doors with inside shelving for additional storage. The woman desk is in good condition commensurate with age and use, and has a rich, walnut patina; it would make a useful addition to a small library or study, because it can be folded up quickly to create more space. Two original keys included. Some wear to the the left side of the top.
Measures: 38.25″ W x 17.25″ D x 58″ H.
