18th Century French Louis XV Carved Serpentine Cherry Desk with Parquetry Top

This elegant antique partner desk was created in the Poitou region of France, circa 1790. Made of wild cherry timber, the large writing table stands on nicely carved cabriole legs decorated with acanthus leaves at the shoulders, and ending with escargot feet. All sides are bowed over a scalloped apron decorated with shell motifs. The front with arched knee opening, features five bombe and serpentine drawers dressed with the original bronze escutcheons and embellished with ornate brass handles. The top surface is decorated with parquetry panels, and the back features five fake drawers. The writing table is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use and adorns a rich, light walnut patina. This Classic, Baroque desk would make a beautiful statement placed in the middle of a study or library. All locks in working condition; five keys included.
