19th Century French Louis XV Carved Walnut Wall Estanier Shelf from Provence
$2,800
About
This beautifully carved, antique fruitwood “Estanier” (aka Provencal hanging shelf), was crafted in Southern France, circa 1880. (An Estanier was originally used as a hanging shelf to display “Etains”, or pewter collection). The cabinet stands on small escargot feet decorated with acanthus leaves over a scalloped apron embellished with a carved vase and leaf motifs on both sides. The scalloped top decorated with a central flower basket is flanked with side foliage, and is dressed with five turned, decorative finials at the pediment. The cabinet has three shelves, including the bottom one, all upholstered with green velvet and decorative fringes. The hanging display cabinet is in excellent condition with a rich walnut patina; for the ultimate Country French look, it could be used on a wall or resting over a buffet or a “Petrin” (dough box). Lighting devise installed on the top. Measures: 27.5″ W x 11″ D x 56.5″ H.
