Set in a carved gilt wood frame, this large antique oil on canvas painting was crafted in France, circa 1880. The pastoral painting, “Shepherd and his flock”, depicts a bucolic scene with sheep grazing and coming back to sheepfold with dog and shepherd watching on, and a farmhouse in the background. The artwork is signed on the lower right corner by the artist Paul Devillers. The large painting is in excellent condition with great details and beautiful pastel colors. A great addition over a buffet or a mantel.
Paul Devillers, was a 19th century French painter of landscapes and animals. He was best known for his pastoral paintings of sheep and cows; among his works are pastoral paintings and paintings with shepherds and flocks at pasture, rustic landscapes, shepherdesses, women washing laundry and harvest scenes.
