19th Century French Terracotta Olive Jar from Provence
$1,300
About
This antique earthenware olive oil jar was created in Southern France, circa 1880. Made of blond clay and neutral in color, the terracotta vase has a traditional round shape. The rustic, time-worn pot features a yellow glaze around the neck and trim, and a natural beige tone throughout the body. Overall, this petite ceramic jar is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a rich, aged patinated finish. Signed with engraving on the side for further authentication. In the south of France and especially in Biot (small village on the French Riviera), these olive pots are also known as the “king of jars,” and were used to transport olive oil in the 17th and 18th century. Measures: 13″ diameter 20″ height.
