Decorate a wall with this large and colorful antique oil on canvas painting. Set in the original carved gold leaf frame, the artwork was created in France at the turn of the century. The composition depicts peasant in front of their farmhouse and going to a party all dressed up. Another man also dressed in Sunday’s costume is sited on a stone bench and holding a bagpipe. The artwork is signed in the lower right corner by french artist, Henri Chanut and dated 1903. Pierre Henri Chanut (1857-1907), was born in Lyon September 4; student of Clement, he entered L’Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Lyon in 1874. Mainly known for his portraits, Chanut’s works showed incredible details in the facial expressions and costume shapes and colors. He died in 1907. Listed in the Benezit. Measures: 63″W x 46″H.
