About
Decorate an office or bedroom with this elegant antique “Secretaire a Abattant”. Crafted in Paris circa 1870, the fruitwood secretary stands on cabriole legs ending with bronze sabots feet over a scalloped apron decorated with a center bronze mount. The cabinet features intricate marquetry and parquetry decor including floral inlaid motifs ion the front door, decorative bronze mounts at the shoulders, and is dressed with the original variegated red marble top. The cabinet has classical lines, and many useful compartments, including four large bombe drawers across the front (one at the top, three at the bottom); the desk is further embellished with serpentine sides. The cabinet has a center door which pulls down to reveal a fully outfitted inside theater. The inside has six drawers, (including a large drawer at the bottom), two secret drawers on the side, and a wide open niche for books and letters. The surface of the desk is dressed with the original green leather. The discrete lady’s desk is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use and adorns a rich, walnut patina. This beautiful, stand-out piece would make a useful addition to a small library or study. The desk can be folded up quickly to create more space. Key included. Measure: 38″ W x 16.5″ D x 58.5″ H.
