19th Century French Empire Marble Top Carved Veneer Elm Commode Chest of Drawers
$3,900
About
This elegant antique chest of drawers was crafted in France, circa 1870. With small proportions, and built of elm, the traditional commode sits on round feet over a straight bottom plinth, and is embellished on both sides by carved round columnar corner posts embellished with decorative bronze rings at the neck and base. The cabinet features three drawers across the front with the original bronze pulls and key holes escutcheons, and a fourth additional drawer under the marble top. The surface is dressed with the original black marble top. This petite Empire style chest is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a rich walnut patina. Versatile, the fruitwood cabinet could be used in a den or entry; it also would make a wonderful powder room vanity with the addition of a sink, or could be used as a nightstand bedside table in a bedroom. Measures: 34.75″ W x 23.75″ D x 29.5″ H.
