Decorate a lady’s office or a library shelf with this elegant antique figure. Sculpted in France circa 1890, the terracotta statue sits on a separate walnut base, and depicts a young female beauty playing the bagpipe.Titled “Le Biniou” (the bagpipe in English), the artwork is signed on the back by the artist, Georges Charles Coudray. Wonderful details throughout The statue is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a rich patinated clay finish. Georges Charles Coudray (1862-1932) was a French Impressionist & Modern sculptor. Georges Charles Coudray was a student of Thomas and Falguiere. He exhibited his work regularly at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1883 to 1890 and then more irregularly until 1903. His sculptures are generally in the Art Nouveau style, but he is also known for his orientalist subjects. Coudray’s work has been offered at auction multiple times, with realized prices ranging from $375 USD to $66,000 USD, depending on the size and subject of the artwork.
