About
This antique fruitwood “Armoire Provencale,” is truly a “one-of-a-kind”. Crafted in France, circa 1760, this tall cabinet features exquisite carvings including the top pediment featuring a pair of doves facing each other, and a nest with three birds surrounded by flowers, fruit, acorns and leaves. The cabinet stands on escargot feet over a scalloped apron embellished in the center with a pierced vase flanked by floral and leaf decor. Both doors are decorated with hand carved flowers, and further embellished with the traditional Louis XVI ribbon bows and laurel leaves. When opened, the inside reveals the original shelving, and the exquisite original lock, cremaillere and key, associated with heavy forged hardware. This exceptional armoire is not only a useful, it is a true museum quality piece. The wardrobe is excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a rich walnut patina. Measure: 59″ W x 24.5″ D x 106″ H.
