18th Century French Louis XIV Carved Walnut Tall Case Clock with Rooster
$6,600
About
This elegant, antique long case clock was crafted in Lyon, France, circa 1780. The fruitwood grandfather clock built in two sections has beautiful lines including an elegant bonnet top at the pediment, a long center door with raised panel and embellished with a carved floral motif at the pediment, and a carved bombe lyre shape base at the bottom ending with base plinth. The tall clock mechanism has been cleaned up and checked up, and is in excellent working order with two weights, pendulum, and winding key. The impressive clock keeps great time and strikes on the hour and half hour. The clock face is decorated with a proud brass “Chanticleer” at the top ( the rooster being a symbol of France). This stately piece is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a rich walnut patina! Some restoration in the back. Measures: 18″ W x 11″ D x 101.5″ H.
