18th Century French Louis XVI Carved Giltwood Wall Mirror from Provence
$1,900
About
This elegant, antique gilt mirror would make a charming addition to an entryway or powder room. Crafted in Southern France, circa 1780, and rectangular in shape, the Provincial mirror is nicely carved and exemplifies the design elements of the after Rococo and Baroque style. The frame is decorated with a pierced ornate cartouche at the pediment featuring a carved rosette medallion in the center flanked with laurel leaf motifs on both sides, also embellished with carved swag tassels in each corner. The frame is further decorated with beads around and ending with small feet at the bottom. The feminine mirror is dressed with the original mercury glass and wood backing. The Louis XVI style mirror is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns its original bright and patinated gold leaf finish. Hooks and wire on the back for easy handling and installation. Some natural oxidation and foxing on the glass. Measures: 15″ W x 26.5″H.
