18th Century French Marble Top Carved Walnut Console Table from Provence
$5,500
About
Dress an entry with this exceptional antique console. Crafted in Provence, France circa 1770, the table stands on elegant cabriole legs decorated with hand carved acanthus leaf at the shoulders, and ending with scrolled feet over leaves; the legs are further connected with an ornate stretcher embellished with a carved and pierced floral decor. The heavily carved bombe apron is decorated with a large cartouche featuring a shell-like motif with foliage on the sides. The surface is dressed with the original shaped red and white marble top contrasting beautifully with the darker wood. The Provencal console is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a rich walnut patina associated with the rouge marble. The console’s craftsmanship, particularly the depth of the carving and the fluidity of the design, reflects the high level of skill typical of 18th-century French furniture. Its rich patina and time-worn details add to its historical charm and authenticity. 43″W x 22.5″D x 34″H
