$6,400
About
This beautiful antique fruitwood “Duchesse Brisee” (French for broken duchess), or chaise, was crafted in Provence, circa 1890. The set is made up of two armchairs (his and hers), and a matching ottoman for both to use. Each piece stands on cabriole legs decorated with floral motifs at the shoulder, over a scalloped apron embellished with shell and leaf decor. Both rounded and curved backs are decorated with hand carved floral and foliage motifs, and each comfortable seat are dressed with loose cushion. The multiple sections are upholstered with the original green fabric with floral motifs and dressed with decorative brass nail heads. The provincial chaise lounge is in good condition commensurate with age and use, with wonderful carvings, and adorns a rich walnut patina. Needs to be reupholstered, but structurally in excellent shape (see last pictures for tears in fabric). Measures: 77.5″W x 26″D x 38.5″H.
