About
Dress a mantel with this impressive antique gilt mirror! Crafted in France circa 1870, and over 7 feet tall, the rectangular mirror with rosette corner accents, is decorated with an intricate cartouche at the pediment featuring a central wreath adorned with finely carved torches, ribbons and floral elements. Two intricately detailed love birds, perched amidst the composition, create a sense of movement and life. Surrounding the wreath are an array of lush, overlapping leaves, including laurel and acanthus, adding depth and texture. The cartouche’s three-dimensional quality is enhanced by the dynamic arrangement of elements, with layers of foliage and the birds emerging prominently from the design. The frame fine beading is embellished with acanthus leaves in high relief on the bottom corners further enhancing its sophistication. The mirror is dressed with the original beveled mercury glass over the original wood backing. The grand Louis XVI style wall mirror is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a rich patinated gold leaf finish. Measuring generously, this mirror commands attention with its size and craftsmanship; versatile, it would be suitable for a grand living space or entryway. Weighs 100 pounds! Measures: 51″ W x 86.5″ H.
