About
Decorate an office or study with this colorful antique painting. Crafted in France circa 1870, and set inside the original beautiful carved gilt wood frame, the artwork is panted on board. The colorful picture depicts a marine scene with sail boats at sea in the style of Eugene Galien Laloue. The painting is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with wonderful colors, and set in an elegant frame with the original gold leaf finish. Eugène Galien-Laloue (1854-1941) was a French artist of French-Italian parents. He was a popularizer of landscape, street scenes, and marine views, usually those illustrating autumn or winter settings. His paintings of the early 1900s accurately represent the era in which he lived: a happy, bustling Paris during la Belle Époque. Galien-Laloue’s works are valued not only for their contribution to 20th century art, but for the actual historical content which they document. His work can be seen at the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Louvier, Musée des Beaux-Arts, La Rochelle, Mulhouse, France. Galien-Laloue was in exclusive contract with one gallery and used at least 6 other names: “L.Dupuy”, “Juliany”, “E.Galiany”, “Lievin”, “A. Languinais” and “Dumoutier”. 17.25″W x 13.25″H
