19th Century French Patinated and Gilt Bronze Figure “Offrande” Signed A. Gaudez

Decorate an office or a study with this elegant antique bronze figure. Hand crafted in France circa 1880, and titled “Offrande” ( Offering in English), the sculpture stands on a circular concave base plinth with cartouche; the figure depicts a standing maiden lady in Renaissance clothing, and holding a purse of coins in her left hand, while offering a coin with her right hand; wonderful details on the dress, hair and features. The art work is signed by the artist A. Gaudez with the inscription’s cartouche: “Offrande” by A. Gaudez “Hors-Concours”. The Art Nouveau female sculpture is in excellent condition and adorns a beautiful patinated bronze finish with gilt accents throughout. Adrien Etienne Gaudez (1845-1902), was a French sculptor born in Lyon on February 9, 1845. He produced several monumental figures that were cast in bronze. Gaudez studied sculpture under the tutelage of Francois Jouffroy at the École des Beaux-Arts and in 1870 was a prisoner of war during the Franco-Prussian War. He started at the Paris salon in 1864, getting two medals for his outstanding work. Gaudez died on January 23, 1902 in Neuilly sur Seine.
