About
Decorate a shelf or desk with this fine antique bronze sculpture. Created in France circa 1880 and built of bronze, the farm animal stands on a flat brass base and depicts a sow sniffing for truffles on the ground. The pig figure is signed on the base by French artist “J. Moigniez”. The “Objet d’Art” is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a rich two-tone patinated finish. A wonderful accent piece to decorate a farm or ranch house. A must for any pig lover! Jules Moigniez (1835-1894) was a French animalier (animal) sculptor who was active during the 19th century. His output was primarily cast in bronze and he frequently exhibited his sculptures at the Paris Salon. He was best known for his bronzes depicting birds, although his skill and versatility enabled him to produce quality horse sculptures (primarily racehorses), dog and pigs sculptures, and hunting scenes. His bird sculptures were among the finest ever created during his time. Listed in the Benezit (see last picture). Measures: 9.5″ W x 5.25″ D x 6″ H.
