This beautiful antique cross was crafted in France, circa 1870. The large iron religious item decorated with scroll and floral motifs is embellished with the Virgin Mary in prayers at the center, surrounded by a beautifully crafted wreath. The tall religious cross is in excellent condition and adorns a rich polished steel finish throughout in the black and silver palette; it could be hung inside a home or outside on a patio wall. The elegant piece contains the letters “FD” in the bottom part of the lower half, and is signed on the very bottom with an inscription that reads “Corneau Alfred a Charleville 177”. Charleville, a well known French town for iron work during the 18th century, home of many manufacturers of art castings thru the second half of the 19th century. Brothers Alfred and Èmile Corneau, who were master iron smiths started one of the leading iron foundries in the French Ardennes, in 1846. Measures: 31.5″ W x 54″ H.
