19th Century French Rust Red Painted Wrought Iron Book Binding Press with Book
$1,300
About
This antique paper binding press was forged in France, circa 1860. The Classic “Presse a Relier” made of solid iron is almost square in shape and features scrolled decor on the facade; the sides, with elegant acanthus leaf decor in high relief, are connected to the manual screw controlled by a wide top handle. This heavy tool is in very good working order for thick books, and adorns a rich patinated rust and red painted finish. Decorate a shelf with this wonderful accessory in a study or library! In the old days, this kind of device was used to press together the book’s sheets together before receiving a bookbinding. Book included. Measures: 15.5″ W x 13″ D x 17″ H.
