Decorate a den, study or office with this large antique cow painting. Hand painted in Switzerland and set in the original carved gilt wood frame, the canvas composition depicts a pastoral scene with a herd of cows, sheep and goats drinking at a water source under the supervision of a farmer on his horse. The artwork is signed in the lower left corner by Swiss artist, Charles Humbert. The painting in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns rich colors and exquisite details; a wonderful addition for a ranch or a hunting lodge! New wire in the back for easy installation. Jean Charles Ferdinand Humbert (1813-1881) was a animal and landscape Swiss painter. Born in Geneva, he moved to Paris and was a student of Ingres. He then moved back to Switzerland where he studied under Diday. In 1842, he received a honorable medal in Paris. He was a member of the Academie des Beaux Arts of Saint-Peterburg.
