About
This elegant, antique two-piece Bargueno or Vargueno was crafted in Spain, circa 1820. The cabinet standing on round feet sits on a table base with carved turned legs and embellished with a decorative wrought iron stretcher. The cabinet with side handles is beautifully ornate with six drawers with tortoiseshell inlay decor, and a center door dressed with side columns and revealing four additional inside drawers. The conversational piece is in excellent condition with a rich walnut patina, and would complement any room from the living room to the study. The Bargueño or Vargueno desk prototype originated in Renaissance Spain, and first appeared in the 15th century; this type of cabinet was used to carry valuables such as jewelry and documents. Measures: 38″ W x 14″ D x 52″ H.
