$1,900
About
This beautifully executed, antique terracotta figure was sculpted in France, circa 1920. The sculpture sits on a dark rocky base and features a fox terrier sited on his rear end and posing with the front left leg raised; wonderful face details including the collar around the neck. The work of art is signed on the front by the artist, T. Cartier, and is dressed with a plaque which reads: “Fox Terrier par Th. Cartier, Medaille d’Or 1927), for further authentication. The terracotta canine sculpture is in excellent condition and adorns a rich, old patinated finish. It would make a wonderful addition to a man’s study or library. Thomas Francois Cartier (1879-1943), was a French animal sculptor who studied under Georges Gardet. He was known to have created many models of predatory animals including lions, big cats and particularly hunting dogs. He first exhibited his work at the Paris Salon of 1904, and continued to perfect his skill until he won a gold medal in 1927. Measures: 9″ W x 6” H x 16″H.
