Early 20th Century French Wall Hanging Brass and Wood Crucifix
$750
About
This beautiful and intricate crucifix was created in France circa 1930. This exquisitely crafted crucifix, combines wood and brass in an intricate and elegant design. The wooden cross has rounded, clover-like edges, adding a decorative and ornate quality to its form. The metalwork features intricate patterns and embellishments, including Fleur de Lys motifs surrounding the Lord figure. The center is dressed with a finely rendered figure of Jesus Christ. The combination of dark wood and golden metal creates a striking contrast, making this crucifix both a spiritual object and an artistic display piece. The religious item is in excellent condition and adorns a rich patinated brass finish. The cross would make an excellent addition for daily devotions. The Fleur-de-Lis has been used in the heraldry of numerous European nations, but is particularly associated with France, notably during its monarchical period. As France is a historically Catholic nation, the Fleur-de-Lis became “at one and the same time, religious, political, dynastic, artistic, emblematic, and symbolic,” especially in French heraldry. The Fleur-de-Lis has been used by French royalty and throughout history to represent Catholic saints of France. In particular, the Virgin Mary and Saint Joseph are often depicted with a lily. Measure: 7.75″w x 2″d x 10.5″h.
