This highly detailed white marble composition is a beautiful example of 20th century sculpture. The carved bust of two young beauties is situated on a separate, walnut stand for a sturdy base structure. The classical facade was crafted in Italy or France, circa 1920, and is in excellent condition with well maintained details throughout the face and hair. The sculpture is signed on the back Gory. Affortunato Gory, Italian/French (1895-1925) was born in Florence. He studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence under Augusto Rivalta. In the beginning of the 20th century he moved to Paris and completed his education under Victorien-Antoine Basset. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes FranMais in 1902, 1904, 1912, 1914 and 1923. His artistic oeuvre consists of sculptures of young women, children and some notable historical figures like Rembrandt en Dante.
