About
Place this important antique scriban bookcase in a study or living room to make an impressive statement. Crafted in Bordeaux, France, circa 1760, the elegant “secretaire a abattant” with upper display shelving is built in two sections. The top part features a curved bonnet cornice with center shell cartouche, two serpentine doors with hand carved floral and foliage motifs. The brass mesh chicken wire covered windows reveal inside display shelving with three original scalloped edges shelves. The lower section features an slanted, folding top embellished with star marquetry decorations. The bottom half opens to reveal a flat writing surface, and a theater structure with six drawers embellished a carved center tabernacle door. Under the desk, there are three bombe drawers with original bronze hardware and escutcheons, and paneled curved sides. The bottom features a scalloped apron with center shell motif and scroll feet at the base. The grand secretaire bookcase is in exceptional condition with a rich walnut patina. All keys included. A true museum quality piece!
