Important Pair of Mid-19th Century Italian Carved Giltwood Candlesticks
$5,500
About
These important antique gilt candlesticks were created in Italy circa 1850. Over 4 feet in height, and standing on three clawed feet over a triangular carved base embellished with relief floral designs and tiered detailing, each tall candlestick features a fluted column structure adorned with ornate carvings, including acanthus leaves and floral motifs throughout. The elegant pedestal features a top circular plate with a decorative rim designed to hold a candle, a small flower pot or a sculpture of some sort. The Neoclassical candle holders are in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorn a rich gold leaf finish. The Baroque “Pic-Cierges” could also easily be converted into classy floor lamps. Their substantial height and ornate detailing suggest they were designed for a grand interior, possibly a church, estate, or aristocratic setting. This pair would serve as both functional and decorative elements, adding historical elegance to any space. Measures: 15.5″W x 15.5″D x 49.25″H.
