This work of art is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use with soft pastel colors and set in an elegant antique frame. Fanch Lel is a Breton artist known for his work in painting since 1955. His artistic style primarily focuses on small oil and gouache paintings created on simple boards. These artworks beautifully depict the charming scenes of everyday life in Brittany, a region in northwest France. Fanch Lel’s paintings often capture the essence of the countryside and seascape, showcasing iconic landmarks like Mont St. Michel. He also frequently portrays animals such as sheep and horses, as well as the traditionally clad Breton people. Through his art, Fanch Lel conveys a deep fascination and love for the Breton people, evident in the numerous paintings that pay homage to the saints of Brittany. Interestingly, “Fanch” is a pseudonym used by the artist. Despite not having formal art education, Fanch Lel taught himself by studying real-life scenes in plein air and secretly painting on the side. His initial exposure to artistic expression began during his school days, where he incorporated drawing into his natural sciences curriculum. Later, during his military service in Algeria, Fanch utilized his artistic talents in military mapping. Fanch Lel’s true joy lies in escaping his day job in Paris and spending his summers and weekends in Brittany, a place that deeply resonates with him and captures his heart through its rich traditions. His dedication to his craft has led him to become a member of the Society of Independent Artists and a Knight of the Palmes Académiques. Throughout his artistic career, Fanch Lel has actively participated in numerous exhibitions across France, including Avranches, Courchevel, Deauville, Dinard, Paris, Pont-Aven, and Mayo. These showcases have provided a platform for his captivating artworks to be appreciated by a wider audience. Measures: 14.75″W x 2″D x 15.25
