This colorful pair of antique Majolica platters were sculpted in France circa 1850. Both plates, decorated in the Renaissance style, are heavily sculpted on the perimeter with overlaid leaves. In the center of the plates, you’ll see a depiction of the King of France, Francois I, with his second wife, Eleanor of Austria. The pieces are in excellent condition with rich colors in a dark blue and pale green palette. Francois I (1494-1547) was the first king of France from the house of Valois, reigning from 1515 until his death. He was the son of Charles, count of AngoulMme and Louise de Savoy He succeeded his cousin and father-in-law Louis XII, who died without a heir. Diameter: 14″. SKU: 33-408
