Pair of Early 20th Century French Hand Painted Faience Vases from Rouen
$3,600
About
Enhance your mantel or table with this striking pair of antique faience vases. Crafted in Normandy France, circa 1920, each tall vase stands elegantly on a round base, featuring large, scrolling leaf form side handles that extend over a long neck. Masterfully hand-painted in the Rouen style, these vases showcase intricate floral motifs and a central basket overflowing with lush flowers, framed by delicate foliate patterns. The important vases boast a sophisticated baluster form with flaring, scalloped rim at the top, while the handles seamlessly integrate into the body, ending with sculpted face motifs likely representing Bacchus, the Roman god of wine and festivity. Each neck is further decorated with an intricately detailed, colorful face on either side. The base and lower body are accentuated with stylized acanthus leaves and elegant flourishes. Rich hues of deep blue, golden yellow, green, and burnt orange bring design together and create a visually stunning art display. The tall ceramic vases are in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and would serve as lovely flower holders. They are signed on the underside “HD” after “Henri Delcourt” for further authentication. Measures: 9.75″W x 7.25″D x 25.5″ H
